IAMA Membership

Why become IAMA member

As an independent academic association, IAMA is a member-run non-profit academic organisation. By joining IAMA, you will become part of a community of researchers, architects, historians, artists, and professionals involved in the planning, development, design, architecture, art, and construction of mosques worldwide. 


IAMA membership is open to academic institutions, research organisations, libraries, professional bodies, architects, artists, private practices, social scientists, urban planners, anthropologists, historians, archaeologists, geographers, and students.

Our Community Space

Institutional Membership

We welcome institutions and organisations that engage in research, education, professional training, or knowledge exchange on aspects of planning, development, design, architecture, art, and the construction of mosques, and related socio-cultural and economic influences.


Institutional or organisational members will benefit from special complementary access to IAMA Databases, publications, and events, as well as a discounted registration rate for training programmes and conferences.


Institutional Membership will open in January 2026 with annual membership fees. 

Individual Membership


Individual members will have access to innovative research, regional workshops, and professional training related to the research, vocational and specialist training, and knowledge exchange programmes at specially discounted rates. You will have the chance to network with internationally leading scholars and architects, and you will receive our newsletter, updates on forthcoming events, workshop reports, training programmes, and publications. 


Benefits of membership:

  • A yearlong subscription to the IAMA’s publications and an annual subscription for its future journals
  • Member rates for registration to IAMA’s International Mosque Architecture Conference
  • Eligibility to apply for IAMA fellowships, awards and grants.
  • Subscription to the IAMA Newsletter 
  • Access to members-only IAMA lectures and educational platforms.
  • Connection to peers through 10 topic-focused SAH Affiliate Groups
  • Access to more than 200,000 images of the built environment through the SAHARA database
  • Access to IAMA Members community space and online network
  • A discount of 50% on registration fees for IAMA-run events and educational programmes.
  • Eligibility for nomination to regional chapters and nomination to serve on the SAH Board or committees


Individual Membership will open in January 2026 with annual membership fees. As we aim to provide equal access to our community, we devised three-tier membership fees that suit the needs and capabilities of researchers and scholars around the world.
